CFM56-5A Series of Engines : CFM56-5A series of high-bypass turbofan aircraft engines made by CFM International (CFMI). The CFM56-5A series is the initial CFM56-5 series, designed to power the short-to-medium range Airbus A320 family. Derived from the CFM56-2 and CFM56-3 families, the -5A series produces thrusts between 22,000 and 26,500 lbf (98 kN and 118 kN). Aerodynamic improvements such as an updated fan, low-pressure compressor, high-pressure compressor and combustor make this variant 10–11% more fuel efficient than its predecessors.

Market Overview

Narrowbody Market- 737NG/ A320 CEO Market:
The Boeing 737 and the Airbus A320 families are considered the workhorses of the global
aviation sector. The Boeing 737 NG and the Airbus A320 CEO family both fly CFM-56 engines.
CFM-56 family is designed, developed, and produced by CFM International. The CFM 56-7B exclusively flies on the Boeing 737 NG (100% Market Share). While CFM-56 5 Series (5A and 5B) have a 60/40 split on the A320 Family of aircraft with the V2500 manufactured by International Aero Engines (IAE). With the CFM-56 family of engines having an overall narrowbody market share of 60% delivery over 25575 engines.

CFM 56 – 5 A Series Market:
Over 836 CFM 56 – 5 A series engines have been produced as of 2020.  The engines were built to support the A318, A319 and A320 CEO series of aircraft.  The engines were replaced by the CFM56-5B series.  An estimated 510CFM 56 – 5 A series engines are in operation.
